Interdisciplinary Proposal Plan
My proposals purpose is to bring the issue of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) to
attention. Healthcare associated infections are infections that occur when a patient is an inpatient
in an acute care facility. These patients are in the hospital for a wide range of things such as
surgery, childbirth, sickness and/ or another infection. These infections are avoidable but sadly
still occur. Blood stream infections, MRSA, UTI and pneumonia are the most common
readmission infections. HAIs have the potential to cause significant issues to patients and can
cause unnecessary readmissions into an acute care facility. “HAIs are serious safety issues for
patients that can result in increased mortality and disease as well as excessive health resource
utilization” (Mitchell, Gardner, Stone, Hall & Pogorzelska-Mariarz, 2018). The med/surg floor
will be the place where the proposal will be implemented and will be followed by other units in
the near future. The result of the proposal is to show considerable amount of improvements in
interprofessional collaboration. The improvements in collaboration can be quantified by a
decline in the number of readmissions due to healthcare associated infections.
Objective of Proposal
The objective is to help establish the efficiency of Comprehensive Unit based safety
programs (CUSP) in the ability to lessen the number of HAIs at the healthcare facility
(Sreeramoju, 2019). It is also in alignment with the facility’s plan to improve patient’s
prognosis’s, safety, and reducing the amount of admissions. General spending on unnecessary
costs can also be decreased as overtime for nursing staff and other staff can be lessened due to
less admissions. If the proposal is successful with the implementation of the CUSP, the facility
should be given an increased amount of positive feedback from patients, which would attract
