My proposed vision for SLMC as the nurse administrator is to deliver the highest level of safe,
culturally competent, compassionate, and quality care as well as to transform and advance
professional nursing practice. Because the patient population served by SLMC is culturally
diverse, the nursing staff must be culturally competent. The nursing staff must be compassionate
and empathetic when addressing the patient’s needs. Commitment from nurses to advance their
practice both personally and professionally show their commitment to staying current and
delivering safe, quality of care to the patients served.
In healthcare today, it is imperative to be effective leader. Visionary leaders must be committed
to their vision to motivate and inspire their staff. Motivated and inspired staff translates into
improved patient care at the bedside as well as improved outcomes for the patients. One of the
most important things a leader can do is to establish a trusting relationship with their staff. When
the staff trusts and respects the leader, it is easier for the staff to buy into and adopt the leader’s
vision. An effective way to implement the vision is for the leader to act as a role model for the
staff. Of utmost importance is how communication occurs. Communication between the leader
and their staff must be clear and concise to encourage acceptance of changes to the work
