Summary of Healthcare Issue – Medication Errors
Patients are prescribed medications to treat their diagnosis. It can be quite easy for a
patient to take to incorrect medication or wrong medication does. The goal as a nurse is to
prevent medications error as taking the wrong medication or does dose can be harmful to the
patient and, in some cases, causes death. As a nurse, I am responsible to makefor making
sure patients take their medications on time throughout the day. I have seen in the past the
incorrect medication being given to the wrong patient as the nurse did not verify the patient’s
name, ; luckily the medication given did not cause any adverse reactions. I was a new nurse at
the time, and this scenario helped me to always remember to check patient identifiers and do
proper checks and balances to ensure I am administering the correct medications to the right
patients.
Identifying Academic Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles
The Capella University online library gives students access to Summon, which gives us
the ability to find articles, books, and other resources in the library collection. I did an advanced
search in Summon for scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles published by using the key words
“medication administration,” “medication errors,” and “medication safety.” I reviewed articles
relevant to the assessment that was published in the last 5 five years.
Assessing Credibility and Relevance of Information Sources
Healthcare is a fast-changing field hence using peer reviewed articles publishes within
the last 5 years will give the best credible and supporting data to complete the assessment. I
review the authors to make sure that they were credible and had the relevant experience in the
