Hands-On Activity Tips and Solutions for Chapter 1
Activity 1-1
This project is meant to be a visual experience for your students and to create an
awareness of the prevalence of computer and networking devices. It is important for
students to get a firsthand view of computer and networking devices, and this
assignment is intended to provide an introduction to the devices in a fun way. Although
many people use computer and networking technology, large numbers may have never
seen certain types of devices or realized how many exist in a single organization.
It may be necessary to schedule in advance the viewing of some parts of the enterprise
network because of access restrictions that apply to certain areas.
It may be helpful to have the local network administrator available to demonstrate how
a device is connected to the network and what function the device performs. It may also
be helpful to ask the students to create a rudimentary (perhaps hand-drawn) diagram
