Controversial COVID-19 Vaccine
The outbreak of Coronavirus better known as COVID-19 brought the world to a standstill
at the end of 2019. China was the first country to experience its wrath with thousands of people
dying within weeks. China being a global business hub meant that it was just a matter of time
before the virus reached other countries through international travel. The aftermath of COVID
infections through 2020 to the present day has seen the deaths of 3.95 million people globally
(Worldometer). The devastating loss of life, deterioration of economic and social prosperity led
to the invention the COVID-19 vaccine. World economies in collaboration with scientists had to
change the status quo to prevent further deaths and massive surges that affected countries
livelihoods and connections. Despite the invention of the vaccine being a noble gesture,
questions have been raised about the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 jabs. In addition,
some vaccines are associated with serious side effects that that impact negatively to human
health. Is this entirely true? This assignment will be assessing the controversy around the
COVID-19 vaccine by evaluating issues that concern the production, distribution, and
administration of the jabs globally.

Barely twelve months since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, scientists had
already developed a vaccine anticipated to prevent or reduce the severity of the virus. The first
vaccines to come into market were Pfizer and Moderna, followed by other brands from Europe
and Asia. The controversy behind the vaccines is that they were quickly developed and
distributed for administration. Based on history of development and production, vaccines have
always taken a lot of time to develop because of efficacy tests that ensure individual safety.
Moreover, some diseases lack available vaccines because of the difficulty that comes with
vaccine production. For instance, it’s almost four decades since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS and
yet not remedy is found apart from supplemental drugs that boost an individual’s immunity. This
being the case many people have concerns about the safety of the COVID vaccine developed in
less than a year. Scientists have given assurances that their vaccines are safe and effective to
prevent severity of the deadly virus, but some remain skeptical opting not to take the jab.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the hasty development of the vaccine followed all
safety and efficacy procedures. The reason as to why the development was quick is because
technologies were already in place in the making vaccines in the event of an outbreak. The only
thing that scientists needed was numerous genetic structures of the SARS-CoV-2 variants from
different countries and funds to hasten the production process. Even though vaccine development
requires developers to follow all steps, most of them documented simultaneous combination of
steps to speed up the process considering the planet was already straining to maintain the
pandemic (Johns Hopkins). The people behind the initial and continuous development of
vaccines continue to monitor their efficacy through the people who were first vaccinated.
