Solar Angles study Notes
Solar Angles
• The sun is a sphere of diameter of m Fig (1).
• The sun is about 1.5 x km from the earth.
• The sun disk forms an angle of (min of a degree), Fig
(2), (Total energy of sun is MW – Earth receives kW.
• The variation in the apparent position of the sun
through the year is a north- south swing over

• The earth makes its yearly revolution around the sun
in 365.25 days.
• The earth rotates every 24 h about its axis.
• Its axis titled at an angle of 23.45⁰ to the plane of
elliptic (which contains the earth’s orbital plane and
the sun’s equator) Fig. 3.
• The daily apparent motion of the sun in the sky is in
an arc (reaching its highest point at middy).
