Cardiovascular Disorders: Teaching About Management of Tetralogy of Fallot (Active Learning

1. this is a ventricular septal defect, a hole between the ventricles, and many levels of
obstruction from the right ventricle to the lungs (pulmonary stenosis) are the most
important. Also the aorta which is the major artery from the heart to the body lies directly
over the ventricular septal defect, and the right ventricle develops thickened muscle.
2. occurs during fetal growth, when the baby’s heart is developing. While factors such as poor
maternal nutrition, viral illness or genetic disorders may increase the risk of this condition, in
the majority of cases the case is unknown
3. after surgery the baby will require continuing care, routine check-ups to make sure that
the procedure was successful and to monitor for any new problems

1. Provide for a well-lit environment, minimizing contrasts and shadows
2. provide a room with a low level of visual and auditory stimuli
3. use caution when administering medications PRN for agitation and anxiety

Coordinating Client Care: Information to Include in Change-of-Shift Report (Active Learning
Template - Basic Concept, RM Leadership 8.0 Chp 2 Coordinating Client Care)
1. performed with the nurse who is assuming responsibility for the clients care
2. describes the current health status of the client
3. informs the next shift of pertinent client care information
4.provides the oncoming nurse the opportunity to ask questions and clarify the plan of care
5. should be given in a private are to protect client confidentiality
6. assessment data integral to changes in client status
7. recommendations for changes in the plan of care
8. clarification of prescriptions
