Telehealth Technology In Nursing
Telemedicine has become a current and rapidly evolving service that provides increased
access to high-quality healthcare which has become more efficient and cost-effective for the
patient, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Telemedicine has been shown to be a
service that is offered and that seeks to improve a patient’s health by permitting real-time
interactive communication between the patient and the physician at a distant site through
technology (Kichloo et al., 2020). Telemedicine aims to meet the patients’ needs and has the
overall capacity to revolutionize and deliver quality care in a more convenient way. This
annotated bibliography will talk about Telehealth benefits and how this technology in nursing has
impacted patients, some barriers and the overall patient outcomes using telehealth.

This article discusses how telehealth had an impact during the COVID-19 pandemic and
the future of medicine including telehealth. The authors state that telemedicine is a type
of service which finds ways to improve a patient’s health through a two-way, real-time
interactive communication that occurs between the patient and the physician virtually.
Telehealth is a different way to provide access to health assessment, diagnosis,
intervention, consultation, supervision and information. This source explains the impact
of using telehealth on patient quality of care. Transportation and mobility can be a huge
barrier to some patients. This article also explains with the pandemic not only was it a
, safer way to communicate with patients, but it also improved health outcomes for some.
Patients would interact with their physicians virtually and the physician was able to
discuss a care plan with that individual with ultimately had a huge impact on the quality-
of-care patients were able to receive during the covid-19 pandemic. This source
explained the relevance of this technology to nursing practice with the pandemic by using
telemedicine as a means of triage. This technology helped maintain patient-oriented care
while protecting patients and healthcare providers. The interdisciplinary team works
together for patients who may have COVID-19, telemedicine has been used to assess
respiratory symptoms, which may be part of the early presentation of COVID-19
infection. This article also mentions how the use of telemedicine has had positive impacts
on the quality of care the patient receives and in the public health emergency with
facilitating triage, but also allowing large numbers of healthcare providers services when
local hospitals and healthcare centers are unable to meet demand. This source is
important to health care practitioners and the interdisciplinary team to read because of the
emerging technology with the pandemic and this use of virtual technology has been a
means of providing healthcare not only to infected people but also to non-infected people
during this infectious pandemic. Telemedicine is also a good resource for chronic
condition management and studies have shown similar positive outcomes for conditions
such as diabetes and congestive heart failure with telemedicine use. The increased use has
encouraged discussion around the integration of telemedicine into accreditation for
healthcare providers and the interdisciplinary team to improve patient quality of care.
