Design of a Trailer Axle for
Diesel Transportation
, Abstract
Oil trailers are mainly used for the transportation of crude oil from one place to
another. Tank truck trailers are used to transport liquids and gas in large volumes. The
internal structure also varies depending on the type of liquid or gas that the trailers are
designed to transport. The tanks may be pressure or non-pressurized and insulated or
non-insulated. The trailers come in different models because of the wide variety of
liquefied loads. In Pakistan they are mainly used to transport petrol or diesel form
loading points to the downstream customers. The design of these trailers is very
important. Special measures are taken to design these trailers. In order to avoid trailer
accidents (like that happened in Ahmed Pur Sharkia), it is the responsibility of the
state to implement these rules. In my design of trailer, I have used rules and
regulations by OGRA and designed the basic chassis and storage tank. Specific type
of chassis design was used which is more stable and has ability to resist bending
moment. The storage capacity of tank was taken as the maximum safe limit set by
National Highway. Number of axles, compartments of fuel and geometry of the
storage tank are the main aspects of a trailer.
