Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, historian and journalist who is best known for his work
as a radical political theorist and social revolutionary.”(Tom Garner, 2021). He also created the conflict
theory and other controversial teachings. Today, people are very divided on what they think about Karl
Marx and his theories. Throughout the years, his theories have caused a lot of unrest and fighting
between the people who like his teachings and the people who do not. Many people think that his
theories have brought a lot of chaos in the world and they have no interest in seeing his ideas developed
any further.
Growing up, I had read about and heard his name spoken, but I never noticed or thought about Karl
Marx or Marxism much. My family and the society I grew up in where very much against his theories and
teachings and the people I was around preferred to ignore the things that they where not comfortable
with. When I did here about these things, I automatically assumed that they where very bad, so I would
ignore them as well or completely ignore the things that I learned. Now that I am older and it is easier to
think for myself, I find myself being more critical of the beliefs and teachings I was taught as a young
child.
This course in sociology has encouraged me to look deeper into theories and ideas that I never gave a
thought to before. At this point in time, I am not exactly sure what I think about Karl Marx and his
theories. What I do know is that I am being taught to think and research for myself and I will take
advantage of this. I will continue to read and learn about this controversial topic, and hopefully I will be
able to come to my own conclusion about them.
