Using Microsoft Word: What does the library have to offer?
This essay will explain the difference between scholarly resources and popular resources,
describing the key things to remember when searching for sources within the University of
Arizona Global Campus Library (UAGCL). It will state how to find resources efficiently and
effectively. Libraries have evolved over time from producing books to serving as a database for
research. As technology progresses, so does the evolution of the physical library, converting to
the web, allowing for more sources to be at one’s fingertips.
In the library, one may find many types of resources, including the most common,
scholarly resources and popular resources. Scholarly resources include scholarly journals, books,
and publications. According to the video, The University of Arizona Global Campus Library
quick ‘n’ dirty, scholarly resources are “a collection of articles written by scholars or academics
in a field of study or someone who has done research in a field and contain original research.
They are reviewed for authenticity and reliability.” (UAGC, 2013) This means that not just
anyone can come to add material to it. One needs to have study working the fields or areas of
study to be able to add additional information, and it needs to be reviewed before it can be added
to the source. For this reason, these types of sources are asked for when writing any paper
because it is reliable, and it has come from someone or a group of people within that area of
study.
