Gun Control Act (1968)
The Gun Control Act of 1968 is the policy I selected for my final paper. I decided on this policy
because I feel that it is something that all individuals need to become more knowledgeable on.
Over the last decade there has been an increase in violence by the result of guns. Many people
are under educated on this policy and has allowed ridiculous shootings to take place killing
millions. Federalism which is a system of government where state and national governments
share the power of authority. Federalism effects The Gun Control Act since there is a dispute
among the federal and state governments.

The author discusses the timeline of gun law history through the U.S. It shows the
various classifications of the gun laws in this article. This includes carrying laws, banning of
firearms, and wielding laws. The main importance discussed within this article is how the laws
were established for guns. It showcases "aimed at keeping guns from non-citizens, young
people, felons and other criminals, and non-state residents," (Spitzer, 2017). This piece also
demonstrates the right of a US populations and exactly how laws become restricted over time.
"Concerns around the fundamental harm and risk attendant to the firing of weapons near others
spawned a steady stream of laws prohibiting such acts from the 1600s through the early 1900s,"
(Spitzer, 2017).
