21st Century Corporate Social Responsibility
In the ever-changing business environment of solid competition and consumerism, 21st-
century enterprises strive to be the best in their industry. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is
the process through which firms create policies that account for their daily operations and
activities in terms of social and environmental issues. CSR entails creating a decent business
environment both internally and externally by supporting ethically oriented activities (Snider et
al., 2003). Most firms today use CRS to help them establish a successful business by engaging in
various activities. "The economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic obligations that a business
must meet are viewed as CSR" (Gonzales-Padron, 2015, sect.2.1, Figure 2.1). Target is ranked
number 14 on the Fortune 100 List as one of the top 100 best companies to work for. This paper
will look at the Target CSR statement, vision, and mission statements, as well as research a
recent article related to their current or future CSR activities, describe how the new plans will
affect the organization both internally and externally, and develop an idea for a new CSR
endeavor based on the mission and vision statements.
Target CSR, Vision, and Mision Statements
Target's Corporate Responsibility Statement: "Our vision is to co-create an equitable and
regenerative future together with our guests, partners, and communities. We call it Target
Forward: leveraging our size and scale to benefit people, the planet, and our business"
(Corporate Responsibility. Target Corporate, n.d., para.1).
, Target's vision statement: "Target is proud to be one of the world's most beloved
brands, and we have made commitments across our business to guide us in keeping that long
legacy alive" (Target Corporate, n.d).
Target's mission statement: "To help all families discover the joy of everyday life"
(Target's purpose and history. Target Corporate, n.d).
After reviewing Target's CSR, vision, and purpose statements, it is clear that the firm
values and takes pride in promoting fair and progressive ideals that benefit customers,
communities, employees, partners, and the environment. They want everyone to be joyful every
day, so they work hard to assist their clients in obtaining better deals, having fun while shopping,
and saving money on everyday products, and they give back to their communities by serving and
supporting them. "Putting the needs of people, communities, and the planet at the heart of how
we work today, to help build a better future tomorrow" (Target's purpose and history. Target
Corporate, n.d.). Wellness, social obligations, charitable activities, diversity, sustainability, and a
positive work environment are all critical to the organization.
A recent article that is related to Target's current or future CSR activities
According to Amanda Nusz, Senior Vice President of Target Corporate Responsibility
and President of the Target Foundation, vaccination access is improving across the country, but
not as quickly as it is for marginalized communities, many of which have been devastated by the
COVID-19 outbreak. The company will use its size, scale, and resources to make vaccination
distribution easier for communities, from its heartland of Minneapolis-St. Paul, to communities
across the country and worldwide, will be investing $5 million to help bridge the gap between
these areas and the resources they require (Target Corporate, 2021). As a result, Target is
dedicated to making the future a better place for everyone. The company is dedicated to making
a difference in people's lives all across the world.
