Public Service Announcement (PSA)

Analyze your approach in terms of what theoretical constructs you are trying to affect.
Joining the team as asked by the American Ad Council to produce a public service
announcement (PSA) I am determined to help LGBT adults who are already addicted to smoking
to quit as well as prevent LGBT youth from starting to smoke. The theoretical construct I am
trying to affect is from the transtheoretical model/ stages of change. The constructs in this model
include; precontemplation where the individual does not recognize any need or interest to
change.
Contemplation is the second stage whereby the individual thinks about change, next is
preparation whereby they adopt a plan to change. The fourth stage is taking action by adopting
new habits; finally, the last construct is maintenance whereby the individuals can maintain the
new behavior (Emadzadeh and Veda, 2020). In the smoking behavior smokers are distributed in
the five constructs, however, the stage of change is a key element in the Transtheoretical Model.
It suggests that smokers are at different stages in the readiness to adopting healthy behaviors.
Analyze the stages of the PAPM your target audience is in.
The PAPM has seven stages that are; not aware of the hazard, aware but not engaged,
engaged with plans on future quitting, make the decision not to quit, make the decision to quit,
make an attempt to quit, and finally abstinence maintenance. My target audiences are LGBT
adults aged between 35 to 50 years who have smoked for over 10 years. Statistics show this part
of the population is growing rapidly in terms of those that are smoking hence it is alarming and
