PSY 362 Topic 4 DQ 1 To what groups do you belong? Describe a situation when you experienced deindividuation, social loafing, or social facilitation while performing a task?experienced deindividuation, social loafing, or social facilitation of the dominant response while To what groups do you belong? In the presence of a group of people, have you recently or ever performing some task? Julie and Class, Thank you for the great topic of discussion. After a thinking about this question, I came to the conclusion that I belong to a number of groups. The groups I belong to is that of a combat veteran, Christian men’s group, and of course the college student group. I have and consistently experience deindividuation in the military. The point behind the military mindset is that everyone is a contributing member of the whole. I have found that it is best to loss individuality in this setting to ensure mission success. I have also noticed that as I grow older and gain more responsibilities for training my team members I experience social facilitation as well. There are times when I have completed tasks by myself, and the results were subpar. There have been times when completing these same tasks in order to show others how to do it, I have found that the results in these circumstances are far different. Not only was the task completed, it was completed perfectly, or at least in a better manner than on my own. For some reason when others are watching so tasks become easy to perform (Kassin, Fein, & Markus, 2014). When it comes to the subject of social loafing I have found that when I work in CLC groups my effort slacks off. I do not intend to do this, in fact I actually feel the need to work harder so others do not have to do my work. When it comes to an assignment, I have found that while working alone I will put maximum effort into the project until completion. During a CLC group project, I tend to hold back a bit and ride the group wave if you will. I believe this is due to the fact that I want all in the group to contribute. I think this is due to my strong personality traits. It is as if I need to limit my control in the group effort. I look forward to the thoughts and experiences of my classmates with this subject. Julie and Class,
Thank you for the great topic of discussion. After a thinking about this question, I came to the
conclusion that I belong to a number of groups. The groups I belong to is that of a combat
veteran, Christian men’s group, and of course the college student group.
I have and consistently experience deindividuation in the military. The point behind the military
mindset is that everyone is a contributing member of the whole. I have found that it is best to loss
individuality in this setting to ensure mission success.
I have also noticed that as I grow older and gain more responsibilities for training my team
members I experience social facilitation as well. There are times when I have completed tasks by
myself, and the results were subpar. There have been times when completing these same tasks in
order to show others how to do it, I have found that the results in these circumstances are far
different. Not only was the task completed, it was completed perfectly, or at least in a better
manner than on my own. For some reason when others are watching so tasks become easy to
perform (Kassin, Fein, & Markus, 2014).

When it comes to the subject of social loafing I have found that when I work in CLC groups my
effort slacks off. I do not intend to do this, in fact I actually feel the need to work harder so
others do not have to do my work. When it comes to an assignment, I have found that while
working alone I will put maximum effort into the project until completion. During a CLC group
project, I tend to hold back a bit and ride the group wave if you will. I believe this is due to the
fact that I want all in the group to contribute. I think this is due to my strong personality traits. It
is as if I need to limit my control in the group effort. I look forward to the thoughts and
experiences of my classmates with this subject.
