3D Applications:
Models: Product designers use 3D modelling on computers, these
individuals produce almost everything in programs such as TrueSpace or
Solidworks CAD. The designers create a graphic 3D image on the
software package they use instead of a physical product; this approach is
essentially cheaper than physical development as it enables any shape to
be produced without having to pay for materials. Also, it is important for
the fact that buyers can have a preview on the product before buying it
which will give them a wider idea about it or in the fields of construction,
the owner of a project can have a look on the building before the
builders start their work and the modelling would be done by the
architect in a virtual but clear way for the owner to view. It is called 3D
modelling because it is the process of creating and developing graphical
images that have 3 dimensions, there are a lot of different software
applications that have been created for 3D modelling examples can
include Blender, Maya…
3D models are classified into two groups, which are the solid models and
the shell/boundaries models. The most practical are solid models that
describe the volume/weight of an object they are meant to depict, and
this gives the model the advantage to look and seem more realistic and
alive. A real-life example of a solid 3D modelling is the design of this
eyeglasses in the below image.
Another example is that Ikea relies heavily on applications for 3D
modelling. They have a set of designers who produce templates in the
store for various items as well as layouts, to design them and see them
, before they are actually created. This will help them to evaluate the
good and bad ones, which will lead them to make fewer mistakes until
the item is generated and distributed. This will also allow the designers
to disrepute their idea easier and show it to the relevant departments to
get an opinion on their product.
Product Design: 3D modelling serves the process of designing products
so brilliantly in which it gives viewers 360 degrees view over the product
which allows the designer to check all the aspects of the product from all
the angles with the opportunity to edit and fix any problem that may be
found. This is also in advantage for those companies who are working on
developing an existing product or on creating a new one, how? So when
the idea is proposed for everyone, the designers who work for this
company will start creating the best design that come to their minds that
will serve the customers in the best and the easiest way, along with
designing the way this product looks, and through this, 3D modelling
would be a factor in helping employees show their ideas in an easier and
more clear way for their managers as well as making it easier for the
company itself to view all the designs and choose the best one to be
performed and transformed to a real product and then given to the
customers. A designer can build an object in many ways, the most
common being Autodesk and adobe software, including Autodesk's own
CAD package and several adobe packages, such as Bridges and
Photoshop. They can also use other applications, such as 3ds max, which
is another Autodesk software package. This editing program allows the
user to build and create 3d models and render them in whatever way
they imagine or supposed to be the best possible; therefore, designers
find this very helpful. So, with the support of 3D product renderings, 3D
product designers can highlight the main functions, appealing features,
and unique capabilities of the product under construction and create
catchy ads from them. This will encourage clients to witness the
, product's working and evaluate it. A very good example can be this Nike
footwear, it is a 3D model designed to be viewed by the customer who
are ordering or looking online, which shows the shoe from all the angles
and give a better view for the customers.
Also, as an example, 40 years ago, all designs would have to be hand drawn,
which is very limited, as the artist would then have to draw the design from
various angles, making the whole process very timely. But now adays, and
because of the development of the computer software and hardware, there
are 3D software that offers designers to create a 3D design of a certain
product and also use it as an assistance to the time where they need to
apply this product and transform it to become alive and real. Another
example is about Ikea where it uses product design to publish their
products to the relevant departments before they get produced. This will
allow those responsible for the relevant departments to see a draft of a
product and give their suggestions to the designer. This will be helpful as it
would mean production would be more efficient and everyone would be
happy with the product.
Animation: Animation is the key 3d consumer, as modern animations
such as cartoons use the requisite tools to construct a 3d entertainment
piece. Graphical images can always be animated in 2D modelling but
they can never be as much interactive as the 3D images that are being
, animated and presented. To make objects appear like they are moving in
3-dimensional space, 3D animation uses computer graphics. To create
the pieces, artists use 3D modelling software. A Software application
that is commonly used for 3D animation modelling is Blender, Blender is
a free and open-source software toolkit for 3D computer graphics used
to build animated movies, visual effects, photography, 3D printed
models, motion graphics, 3D interactive apps, virtual reality, and games
for computers. On Linux, Windows, and Macintosh computers, Blender
is cross-platform and runs equally well. To have a consistent experience,
the GUI uses OpenGL.
Animation can be used in creating a movie such as Frozen (The awesome
graphics that you come across in sci-fi or modern movies are the
handiwork of 3D animation), making advertisement videos, or making
videos to deliver a certain idea in an easier way without the use of
humans for example to act on this video, you can create animated
