Hello Professor and class, For this week’s discussion, I chose the case study of a 57-year-old female patient with a 13-year history of diabetes. The clinical question that I formulated is: P- Adult patients diagnosed with type I diabetes I- Strict dietary modifications C- Compared to treatment with biphasic insulin aspart 30/70 O- Prevent episodes of hypoglycemia T- Six months Would strict dietary modifications compare to treatment with biphasic insulin aspart 30/70 be more effective in the prevention of episodes of hypoglycemia in adult patients diagnosed with type I diabetes over six months? The focus of this question assessment is treatment. According to Kumar (2015), the primary obstacle to glycemic control is hypoglycemia. American Diabetes Association (ADA) statistics show that in 2012, 29.2 million Americans (9.3% of the population) had diabetes (ADA, 2016). New patients are diagnosed with diabetes every day. Statistics also show that a total of 1.4 million Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes annually (ADA, 2016). Type I diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how the body metabolizes sugar. Through understanding the pathophysiology of type I diabetes and ways to manage the condition, many complications associated with this condition can be prevented thus improving patient outcomes and decreasing costs associated with complications and hospital readmissions.
