CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS

 Cardiac arrhythmias refers to disruption of the normal
cardiac rhythm . It may cause sudden death , syncope ,
heart failure , dizziness , palpitations or no symptoms at
all.

 Most arrhythmias are harmless but some can be
serious or even life threatening .

 During an arrhythmia , the heart may not be able to
pump enough blood to the body .Lack of blood flow can
damage the heart, brain and other organs .
 Cardiac arrhythmias may be discussed as :
1. Abnormal sinus rhythm,
2. Conduction disturbances ( heart blocks ) &
3. Ectopic cardiac rhythm .

Sinus Arrhythmia:
 Sinus arrhythmia is characterized by a
normal sinus rhythm except for the R – R
interval which varies in a set pattern .
 R-R intervals shortened during inspiration &
prolonged during expiration
 Sinus Tachycardia :
 Sinus tachycardia is characterized by a
normal
sinus rhythm except for increased heart rate

 Tachycardias are subdivided into
supraventricular
tachycardias & ventricular tachycardias .
 Sinus Bradycardia :
 Sinus bradycardia is characterized by a
