As you “drive” through Sentinel City, write about your impressions of the community. Take
notes about the community using the following questions as a guide. You may discover

Housing and Commercial Buildings:
How old are the houses and buildings in the community? Likely early 1900’s to current but not
specified in simulation
What materials are the homes and buildings constructed from? Bricks and concrete
Are all the houses similar in age and architecture? Much of the city appears older/remodeled
along with new construction condos
How would you characterize their differences? Shapes of trim, windows rounded or square
Are the houses detached or connected to each other? Much of it is connected together with little
room in between if available
Are there solar panels? Windmills? None noted
Do the houses have space in front or behind them? Sidewalk in front of them, unable to
assess back side of homes
What is the general condition of the houses and buildings? Much of the city’s buildings appears
well maintained, clean, no missing bricks or cracks noted
Are there signs of disrepair (e.g., broken doors or windows, leaks, missing locks)? None noted
Are there signs of neighborhood pride, such as well-tended yards? No yards noted, all
concrete, some park areas that are well kept
Is there central heating, modern plumbing, air conditioning? Unable to assess but likely
Open space:
Is the county primarily rural, suburban, urban, or a mix? How much open space is
there? Mix of urban/suburban. Not much open space besides parks or playground as
space is either occupied by buildings or the roadway
What is the quality of the space (i.e., lush green parks or rubble-filled lots)? Nicely
maintained parks and playground
What is the lot size of the houses, lawns, and flower boxes? Unable to assess
Do you see trees on the streets or a green island in the center of the streets? Some scattered trees
throughout the city, small flower/plant area
Is the open space public or private? Who uses this space? Private space. Children and adults
Boundaries:
What signs are there of where neighborhoods begin and end? Garbage, new
construction, graffiti, number of nice vehicles parked outside
Are the boundaries natural (a river, a different terrain); physical (a highway, a
railroad); or economic (differences in real estate or presence of industrial or
commercial units along with residential)? Differences in real estate including new
construction and remodeling versus older/poor parts of town
