Anterior Compartment of leg
Chief Nerve: Deep fibular/ peroneal nerve
Chief Action: Dorsiflexion of foot
Muscles
Tibialis Anterior - ORIGIN: lateral surface of tibia and adjacent interosseous
membrane
INSERTION: Medial and inferior surfaces of medial cuneiform and adjacent
surfaces on base of metatarsal I
NERVE SUPPLY: Deep fibular nerve
ACTION: Dorsiflexion of foot at ankle joint; inversion of foot
Extensor Hallucis Longus- ORIGIN: Middle one-half of medial surface of
fibula and adjacent surface of interosseous membrane
INSERTION: Dorsal surface of base of distal phalanx of great toe
NERVE SUPPLY: Deep fibular nerve
ACTION: Extension of great toe and dorsiflexion of foot
Extensor Digitorum Longus- ORIGIN: Proximal one-half of medial surface
of fibula and related surface of lateral tibial condyle
INSERTION: Via dorsal digital expansions into bases of distal and middle
phalanges of lateral four toes
NERVE SUPPLY: Deep fibular nerve
ACTION: Extension of lateral four toes and dorsiflexion of foot
Peroneus Tertius- Origin: Distal part of medial surface of fibula
INSERTION: Dorsomedial surface of base of metatarsal V
NERVE SUPPLY: Deep fibular nerve
ACTION: Dorsiflexion and eversion of foot

Deep Peroneal Nerve
ORIGIN: Terminal branch of Common Peroneal Nerve at the Lateral Side of Neck of Fibula
COURSE
1. Enters the anterior compartment by piercing Anterior Intermuscular Septum and EDL
2. It descends and accompanies Anterior Tibial Artery
3. Finally it reaches the Dorsum of Foot
TERMINATION
At the Dorsum of Foot, it terminates by dividing into Medial and Lateral Terminal Branches
-Lateral Terminal Branch: forms Pseudoganglia under EDB
-Medial Terminal Branch: continues to supply Skin and Joint of Big Toe
Branches:
1. Cutaneous Branch
▪ Adjacent side of 1st and 2nd Toes
2. Articular Branch
▪ Ankle Joint
▪ Tarsal Joints
▪ Tarsometatarsal Joints
▪ Metatarsophalangeal Joint of Big Toe
