1. Key Findings
● There is an increase in the poverty level in Hertford County compared to the United
States.
● There has been an increase in the county’s physical inactivity rates compared to a
decrease in the state and nationally.
● There is an increase in Hertford County’s obesity rates.
● For sexually transmitted infections, there is an increase in Hertford County, North
Carolina, and nationally.
● As for the population served by one primary care physician, there has been a decrease
in Hertford County, North Carolina, and nationally.

2. Introductory paragraph
The sociodemographic profile table below shows Hertford County, North Carolina, and the
United States statistics. Compared to Hertford County, the United States had many values
that were much larger; however, some were the same. One of the most significant differences
was the percent of black or African American alone and white alone compared to the United
States. Then there was a surprising statistic that the percent of female persons were
practically the same in Hertford County and the United States.
It was astonishing to find out that the percent of civilian labor force age 16 years+ was so
small at only 52.5% of Hertford County’s population and only 63% in the United States. It
was not surprising to find out that Hertford County’s percentage of poverty was higher than
the United States by 11.6%. Much of Hertford County is poverty-stricken (United States
Census Bureau, n.d.).
