Argument Research Essay Proposal Narrowed Topic: Binge-watching television has adverse effects on our emotional and mental health Research Question: Does binge-watching effect our everyday lives? Tentative Claim/Thesis (Situated in a Valid Debate): With the increase of availability to stream shows on platforms like Netflix and Hulu, there is a need to look at the effects of our daily lives and the consequences of binge-watching including increased depression, anxiety and stress on personal relationships and overall health. Rationale and Research Plan – Background, Overview, Approach, Research Plan, and Possible Complications (at least two full paragraphs): Background and Overview: Traditionally, the way of watching television is to watch your favorite show at its scheduled time, watch advertisements, and having to wait a week to watch the next episode. However, over the last few years binge-watching has become the new normal. Online streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime has made the wait and commercial breaks a thing of the past. If you wanted to, you could watch an entire series in one sitting and most times, people will. My approach is looking at what the effects on our everyday lives are when we decide to binge-watch shows. I would like to point out the mental health aspect to why binge-watching is not a good thing.
