 Recognize the Emergency (Tap & Shout) A victim of SCA (sudden cardiac
arrest) will suddenly ____collapse______.
 Assess the scene for ___safety____. If it’s safe approach the victim from the
side.
 Attempt to establish a ______response_______ by tapping on the victim’s
shoulder and shouting loudly, “Hey! Hey, are you okay?”
 If the victim is ____unresponsive____ this is an emergency. You don’t need
to know if the victim is breathing or not, what you do know is that he won’t
respond to your tap and shout (victim is unresponsive) so you need to get
help right away.
Activate ___EMS____ (call 9-1-1)
 If there is a bystander, point at the person and say, “__You, go call 9-1-
1___.”
