Disclosure Officer and mentor. This course covers three specific types of
authorizations that allow controlled information and technology to be shared
with friends and allies . So far we have covered two types : Foreign Disclosure
Authorizations and Export Authorizations.
To quickly review, a Foreign Disclosure Authorization provides DoD personnel
the authority to share Classified Military Information ( CMI ) and Controlled
Unclassified Information ( CUI ) with foreign recipients . Export Authorizations
provide private industry ( contractors ) authority to provide controlled
information and technology to foreign recipients .
In this lesson we'll look at the third type of authorization - Visit
Authorizations, which are used by both government and contractors . This
type, grants authority to disclose controlled information and technology during
visits . An approved visit authorization is also a means to document and V

Lesson 6 : Visit Authorizations
Visit Authorization Overview

We will start out by discussing why visits are important.
Next, we will look at inbound visits and explain our policies and procedures regarding visits and
assignments of foreign nationals to DoD Components and U.S. contractor facilities .
We will discuss the three specific types of international visits and how they are processed under the
International Visits Program .
Next, we will look at outbound visits - when DoD and U.S. contractor personnel make visits abroad .
Again we will look at the operative policies and procedures and the process to request and arrange for
such visits.
We also must discuss exceptions to the normal International Visits Program policies and procedures . One
key exception is for training visits associated with Foreign Military Sales ( FMS ). We will cover the
requirements for such training and discuss the procedures used here.
Finally, we will discuss foreign personnel assignments to DoD and to U.S. contractor sites . We will
examine different types of assignments, the security implications, and the procedures that are used to
control access .
