Support your stance by indicating how a PLC support/not support teachers and learners in this case study. 5 examples of how PLC will support teachers. • Mutual trust and respect If members do not trust each other and respect each other’s differences a PLC cannot be successful. A spirit in which people are not afraid to talk about the challenges they are facing in their classroom, comment critically on others, refrain from gender stereotyping, and share ideas about learning is crucial for PLC. Mutual trust and respect does not come automatically. It takes a lot of time and effort for them but once they are there, some real powerful learning can take place. • Support challenge and constructive critique Members challenge each other with questions and ideas if they are in a successful PLC. Constructive critique is invited and appreciated. Members learn and align their ideas on learning because of challenging and critiquing each other. • Shared vision and clear focus on ensuring learning for all pupils. Every teacher is preparing, teaching, and assessing learners because it has been their individual tasks. Effective PLCs challenge this notion and inspire peers, team teaching, observations, and mentoring to open their classrooms. Improving learning in a PLC becomes a collaborative effort.
