This case involves one of Cape Town’s top court officials currently accused of fraud. Nelson Ntsibantu, the sheriff of Cape Town west allegedly channeled money from judicial auctions into his own bank account, including shopping at different outlets according to court documents. He transferred money from a trust account into his business account 78 times, according to papers filed in a legal showdown with the South African Board of Sheriffs. As Sheriff, Ntsibantu is responsible for executing court orders and overseeing judicial auctions in his precinct. This Article is interesting to me because it broadens my awareness into various kinds of crimes being committed daily and the fact that this crime is allegedly committed by one of the judicial officers entrusted with the administration of justice. The story relates to our criminal justice system because a court Sheriff is being accused of Fraud, which is a crime in South Africa. Key Role Players: Nelson Ntsibantu the Sheriff of Cape Town West, as the accused. The South African Board for Sheriffs, as a statutory body established under section 7 of the Sheriffs’ Act, and also mandated to monitor the conduct of sheriffs. Attorneys as representatives for creditors, they tried to stop the Sheriff from proceeding with the Auction of a certain house citing reasons that a settlement has been reached between both parties, to which the Sheriff refused and insisted the auction go ahead against the wishes of both parties. The Sheriff’s Brother, who was roped in to bid at one of the Sheriff’s auction. Example 2: LAND INVASION CASE REFERRED BACK TO POLICE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION Ridge Times. P.2, Friday April 7: 2017. This case involves Goven Mbeki Municipality’s ward 9 committee member, Mr Mahlangu who is alleged to be behind the invasion of municipal land in Extension 22, Embalenhle. He is said to have encouraged members of the community to occupy the vacant land illegally. The charge was laid by the Govan Mbeki Municipality, and Mr Mahlangu appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s court where the case was referred back to the police for further investigation because there was not enough evidence to constitute a criminal case.
