Questions:-
List the main characteristics of the computer.
Describe the characteristics of the computer.
List three significant limitations of the computer.
Explain briefly the use of computers in the following areas (a) Education, (b)
Advertising, and (c) Government.
Answers:-
1. Remarkable speed
2. Large storage capacity
3. Result accuracy
4. Diligence
5. Memory power
Remarkable speed: A powerful computer can perform several billion arithmetic and
logical operations per second. It comparatively completes the amount of work that a huma
being can do in an entire year in a few seconds only.
Large storage capacity: As computer technology has progressed, databases have grown in
size but have physically become smaller. Now a computer can retain permanently large
amounts of any type of data on common mass storage devices.
Result accuracy: A computer can never make mistakes and it performs all the given tasks
with 100% accuracy. However if it generates any error in results, then it is mainly due to
human rather than technological weakness.
Diligence: Unlike human being a computer is a machine which is free from
monotony, tiredness and lack of concentration. It can continuously work for hours and do
the same tasks repetitively without any errors.
Memory power: A computer can store data and information which can be retrieved and
recalled as long as the desired user require it, for any numbers of years.
1. No self intelligence (learning power)
2. No decision-making power
3. Emotionless
