ASSIGNMENT NO: 7
PART A
According to the ecological footprint calculator my ecological footprint is 3.2
Hectares. The average ecological footprint is 1.8. This indicates my human
activities exceeds the norm, I’m using more than I should and this is
unsustainable. I think if we can make a few changes we can reduce the ecological
footprint drastically. One of the main ways to reduce your ecological footprint
is to change the way you use energy.. Taking in consideration the three R’s which
is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. As said before whether it is small or large changes
it will surly make difference.
PART B
Do I really practice the values i am describing?
Yes I do practice the values I’m describing, even if it’s a small contribution, every
contribution leads to a bigger change.
Can i really claim these are my virtues?
Yes I can claim these are my virtues
Is what i am saying really what i do?
Yes it is, And now that I am more aware of my ecological footprint, I know that
more needs to be done
PART C
“It's all in the outcome - Consequentialism”
Consequentialism is the view that morality is all about producing the right kinds
of overall consequences When it comes to the environment utilitarianism runs
into even greater problems because humans are the sole deciders of what has
value and this is shown only through human action. Utilitarianism is all about
looking at how something affects every individual. Unfortunately, sometimes
people's interests conflict. So in relations to the contributions to the ecological
footprint I think the sooner that we can all understand the limitations of
utilitarianism. We will come to realize that many of our actions today are
immoral and should be stopped for a sustainable future.
“Fair’s Fair - Distributive Justice”
In relation to assignment 5, it is important to create a future that is fair and
sustainable for our future generations. John Rawl used 3 principles to evaluate
the theory of fairness. It states the every individual should have the right to basic
