, Format
While this course was originally scheduled to be a hybrid course that is part online and
part onsite, current circumstances dictate that this class will be taught entirely online.
While many elements of this course are already designed to be delivered online
(lectures, exams, discussions), some elements are not, so we will do our best to provide
material that works online. The elements that usually take place onsite include: Lab
lectures, Q&A on lecture material, lab activities, lab practicals, and assignments.
Live Virtual Class Sessions
To replace the interaction that normally takes place during a weekly in-person meeting,
I will be holding live, virtual class sessions on what would have been our regularly
scheduled class day (1:00pm Saturdays) starting October 2nd and continuing every
Saturday at 1:00pm through the end of the quarter; the last Saturday meeting will be on
December 11th. So, we will meet eleven times: October 2, 9, 16, 24, & 30; November
6, 13, 20, & 27; and December 4 & 11. These sessions will not take the entire three and
a half hours normally allotted for a hybrid class. I intend to keep them to 2 hours or less
most weeks. I plan on using Zoom for these sessions. The sessions WILL BE
RECORDED so if you cannot attend live, you'll be able to view them later.
Canvas Online Course
The course content is divided up into weekly modules. Our class meetings occur at the
end of the week, so you will be expected to complete each week’s online activities
before attending the virtual class session on Saturday. This way, you will be prepared
for the lab activity presentations and can also ask any questions you might have about
the lecture material.
Modules
As mentioned, the course is divided into weekly modules. Each module contains:
• Weekly instructions
• Lecture videos and associated notes
• Lab assignment
• Discussion
• Objectives*
• Case study Assignment*
• Exam*
• Lab Practical* * = does not apply to every week
Units
In addition to weekly modules, the course is further organized into five units, each with
an exam at the end. Each unit has a list of Objectives, which are available in the Files
section of the Canvas site as well as in the weekly module that starts each unit.
