HCM4005 Managerial Epidemiology in Healthcare Administration SU01
2022
South University
, In this assignment I will be comparing the population health of the United States to that
of Canadas. After comparing the two countries I will explain what the statistics and data
say about the health outcomes of each country are as well as what specific diseases are
endemic and have been epidemic to each one. Next, I will discuss what inequalities are
evident, what resources are available to people with low income, and what type of
governmental assistance is available as well as who it is available to. Then I will discuss
how much of the countries' GDPs are allocated to health care services. Lastly, I will
describe some documented cases/events showing healthcare leaders playing key roles in
population health improvement?
After looking the statistics/data, it tells me that Canada’s population’s health is much
better than the United States. For example, the life expectancy is 83.3. They are ranked
21st, 3% more than the United States which is at 81.1 and ranked at 43rd. Also, Canada is
ranked 11th for obesity, with 14.3% and the United States are ranked at 1 st place at 30.6%,
meaning that the United States has the most obese population than any other country.
(Health Stats: compare key data on Canada & United States, 2003-2020)
Canada, has an endemic of mosquitos more than likely due to the country having more
than 80 species of the tiny insect. (Ludwig, et al., 2019)
Canada has also had its share of epidemics like cholera, influenza, HIV/AIDS, SARS,
and most recently COVID-19. (Bailey, 2008-2020) The United States have had endemics
such as Chicken pox, that is usually present at all times but in low volume. Some of the
epidemics that the United States have had are smallpox, yellow fever, cholera, scarlet
