QUESTION 1
Basadi Social Club has a membership of 35 people and has a credit balance of R2 million at VBD Easy Bank
from its members’ contributions. The chairperson of Basadi Social Club applied for the loan at VBD Easy
Bank. The chairperson used the club’s account as security for the loan. In addition, in terms of a separate
contract with the bank, the chairperson’s company, Dimakatso’s Catering & Cleaning Inc, will provide
catering services to the bank for all its functions. VBD Easy Bank is now placed under business rescue
because of the looting and the unsecured loans which were given.
Advise members of Basadi Social Club on
(a) legal nature of a burial society. (10)
(b) the differences between the insurance contracts and stokvel. (10)
