FNP 590 WEEK 6 DISCUSSION 2Healthy People 2020 identifies objectives related to exercise and fitness. Identify ways the nurse practitioner can promote healthy lifestyles and improved exercise compliance of their patients. What technologies are available that can assist patients and providers? The Healthy People 2020 objective regarding exercise and fitness is an important factor to address as a health care provider/nurse practitioner. The statistics provided by Healthy People 2020 state “more than 80% of adults do not meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle- strengthening activities. Similarly, more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth” (Healthy People, 2021). Regular physical activity can improve the health and quality of life of Americans. Compliance to physical activity depends on a multitude of factors such as, social, economic and environmental. It is important as a nurse practitioner we understand the barriers to physical activity and provide interventions to promote increased levels of physical activity amongst these populations. Behavioral counseling can improve adherence to a healthy lifestyle, however, individuals’ motivation for change and resistance to altering unhealthy habits should be considered when developing an effective approach to counseling (Stonerock & Blumenthal, 2017). Family Nurse Practitioners can educate patients to be compliant to their medication regimen, get plenty of rest, promote stress relief options such as, gardening, journaling, arts and crafts, volunteering and becoming more involved in their community and more (DuQuesne University, 2018). Overall, one of the most important roles as a nurse practitioner is to educate our patients. We can educate on what a healthy blood pressure looks like and what a high blood pressure is caused by; high levels of stress and more (Duquesne University, 2018) Teaching patients about blood glucose levels and the negative effects that excess glucose can have on the body (Duquesne University,
