Do you think Physical Education has an educational value for the child? Motivate.
Yes:
• It guides the learner to self-confidence within this working sphere.
• Provides opportunities for learners to develop their body power, suppleness
and endurance.
• Creates enjoyment for leaners.
• Teaches young learners valuable lessons about life and society in general.
• It is an instrument that helps develop characters and personality as well as
transferring qualities such as honesty, fairness and self-disciple.
Question 2
Changes in body proportions affect how skills are performed. Explain why this is so.
• Additional weight gained during puberty and body posture changes
influence the speed at which children move.
• Relatively short legs of very young children limit their ability to run.
• Children’s long arms and legs prominent at the beginning of puberty help
them run better and faster.
• The balance of the body during movement is affected by the relative size of
the head in childhood.
• The rapid growth causes clumsiness and coordination difficulties.

Why is knowledge regarding the structure and functioning of the body so important to
the physical education teacher and coach?
• Coaches teach new, exciting activities and reveal new abilities which they
can then adjust and shape according to the physical development and
needs of the student based on their knowledge of the functioning of the
body.
• Coaches and physical educators should note the different physical and
social developmental stages of each student as this will determine the
ability of each at the various stages of their lives.
