horticultural crops which have the highest demand in the current world. Posted below are 16 different
crops and well explained on the processes of planting them.

A) TENDER STEM BROCCOLI ( T.S.B)

It is planted using seedlings. This is because the use of seedlings ensures faster growth than the use of
seeds. Furrows are made first before planting. The spacing used is as follows;

 The outer furrows are spaced at 25 cm between seedlings.
 The middle furrow is spaced at 30 cm between seedlings
 The inter row spacing is 15 cm

The fertilizers used during planting of broccoli are;

Diammonium phosphate(DAP) at the rate of 250 kg per ha

Copper sulphate (CuSO4) at the rate of 5kg per ha

Solubor at the rate of 5kg per ha

Zinc Sulphate at the rate of kg per ha

The number of seedlings used per ha is 76,000 seedlings, that is 176 to 180 trays of seedlings.

The time taken from planting to harvesting of the crop is 9 weeks.

B) FINE BEANS (FRENCH BEANS)

Furrows are first prepared. Seeds are used during planting. The spacing between the seeds is 8cm and
they are planted in three furrows. The inter row space is 15 cm apart.

The fertilizers used are;

DAP at the rate of 250 kg per ha

Organic manure (Plantmate) at the rate of 150 kg per ha

CuSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

Solubor at the rate of 5 kg per ha

ZnSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

The amount of seeds used is 60 kg per ha

Time taken from planting to harvesting is 9 weeks.

C) CHILLIES

The method of propagation used is the seedlings.

, The spacing between the seedlings is 30 to 40 cm.

Inter row spacing is 30cm and it is planted in two rows.

The fertilisers used are:

DAP at the rate of 300 kg per ha

ZnSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

CuSO4 at the rate of 5 kg per ha

Organic manure at the rate of 150 kg per ha

The amount of seedlings used is 75,000 seedlings per ha

The period from planting to harvesting is 10 weeks.

D) GARDEN PEAS

The spacing between the seeds is 4 to 5cm .
The inter row space is 30 cm and it is grown in two furrows.

The fertilizers used are

DAP at the rate of 200 kg per ha

CuSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

Solubor at the rate of 5kg per ha

ZnSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

The amount of seeds used

Period from planting to harvesting is 9 weeks.

E) BABYCORN

The variety planted is SG 54-14

Seeds are used as the propagation material.

The spacing used between seeds is 10 to 15 cm. it is grown in two rows and the spacing between the
rows is 30 cm.

The fertilisers used in planting babycorn are:

DAP at the rate of 200 kg per ha

CuSO4 at the rate of 5kg per ha

ZnSO4 at the rate of 5 kg per ha
