Group Leading Proposal

Introduction and Background
My experience in leading groups is not extensive, but I do have some experience that is
beneficial in relation to leading groups. Weekly I present a 10-15 minute briefing to military
members regarding the services and support that are available for them and their families
through the office in which I work. This is primarily information-sharing and does not involve
communication between the group members. There is time following the briefing for questions
from the Soldiers to which I provide answers mostly in a one-on-one capacity as the questions
and concerns may be of a private and personal nature.
Others groups I have led in the past are nightly group devotional times with teenage girls
as a Camp Counselor when I was in college. These groups were more of a support group in
nature as there was much opportunity for personal sharing and discussion between the members.
These groups gave me a greater opportunity to utilize group leadership skills such as active
listening, reflection, clarification, questioning, linking, encouraging, supporting, as well as
information giving, modeling, and tone setting.
These experiences will benefit me as I prepare to lead the group for this class group
leadership project. I have chosen to organize a group for the purpose of this project. It will be a
support group for people who are caring for aging and ill family members.
The Group Context
The group is being created solely for this assignment. If the members find it beneficial
and have a desire to continue meeting, I am willing to continue to host and lead the group. I
personally hope that the group does continue to meet and grows in members as I feel that it will
be beneficial to the members to have continuing support.
