GENERATION OF WASTE
Waste – any material leftover or discarded after use.
- Produced as a result of human activities is found anywhere.
Different Forms of Waste:
1. Solid – from kitchens, construction sites, mining industries
2. Liquid – from factories, sewage lines
3. Gaseous – from industries, vehicles
7 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF WASTE
a) Domestic – generated from the things we use in our homes.
– include paper, glass, plastic, fruit and vegetable peels, garden litter,
packaging material, batteries, household chemicals, discarded household
item etc.
Garbage – waste that can be decompose like vegetable and fruit peels, leftover food
and other organic matter from the kitchen.
Recycled – waste rubbish like pencil, sharpening, paper, plastic bottles, boxes,
cardboard, rubber, metal or glass containers, wooden articles etc.
Excreta – waste matter excreted by humans and animals (pets). If the excreta not
disposed of properly, it can cause pollution and spread epidemics and diseases.
Sullage – waste (generally in liquid form) disposed off from kitchens, toilets and
bathrooms.
b) Industrial Waste – industries use up various raw materials to process them into
-finished goods.
- The entire process generates lots of waste material which into which is
released to the environment without processing.
-Waste include chemicals, acids, metals, oils, synthetic compounds, dyes,
poisonous gases, greenhouse gases etc. It’s harmful and polluting.
-Industries treating their waste to convert them to non-harmful and
non-polluting forms before discharging them.
-Include demolish demolished and construction sites, mining, by products
of various industries like paper, glass, plastic, chemicals, textiles, cement
and engineering goods etc.
