PYC3716 portfolio revised back up. TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION ....... ERROR! BOOKMARK NOT DEFINED. Section 1 ................................................................................ 1 Section 2 .............................................................................. 32 Section 3 .............................................................................. 33 Section 4 .............................................................................. 34 Conclusion ............................................................................ 36 1 Introduction I am most pleased to present this portfolio, a project and anthology of my experience researching and joining an organisation to volunteer at and what I learnt from volunteering as well as in depth approaches and look into the organisation itself, in an unusual time in South Africa and within my community, as the COVID-19 virus leads us into unprecedented times. The organisation I chose to volunteer at is EDULIFT SA, and I will be referring to it as that throughout my portfolio. My portfolio is laid out in 4 sections, section 1 comprises of the prescribed activities, followed by sections 2-4 entailing my personal reflections on the experience of volunteering and my views on the unique learning process this module has exposed me too. I hope you enjoy reading my compilation as much as I enjoyed creating it. SECTION 1 Activity 1 In my community which is a bustling metropolis in Johannesburg, the pressures to make ends meet or have shiny new things beyond their means is something the majority have in common. The “hustle” as they call it means education or developing skill sets take a back seat and other unsustainable practices are taken up instead, such as transactional relationships, crime, odd temporary jobs, begging etc. I would like to start an organisation that can offer opportunities to these people to develop various skill sets, get volunteers from various fields to teach, or mentor or guide young adults and adults through a helpful process, such as sewing, cooking, fitness, farming, mechanics, plumbing, computer skills, short courses and such so that these people may be able to develop sustainable skills and open up opportunities for people who didn’t know they existed. The organisation will then have an online column to advertise people who have acquired skills through the organisation and bring them into contact with interested parties as well as work with a recruitment agency who will work with the organisation to place those who are ready to work; the online coloumn will furnish each person with a testimonial to enhance their chances even further. The resources required to start such an organisation will require at least 4 months to obtain volunteers who are able to teach/instruct/mentor in their fields as well as find a recruitment agency who will work will is for placements. Depending on the volunteers and their available times decide on how often to rotate their programs. Another resource that will be needed is a location, such as a community recreation centre or church hall or a school hall to hold classes. I will need money for advertising around the community perhaps holding an open day in the community canvassing and informing this chance can also be used to see what skill sets will
