Prompt: What types of listening and viewing are appropriate for English language
learners? Imagine two classrooms:
1. High beginner/A-2 group of 22 university students (ages 19 to 23) in a
mid-sized city in China.
2. 10 engineers (ages 28 to 40) in a B-2 high intermediate English class given in a
company conference room in Norway
Well, as we know, a High beginner/A2 group of 22 students to a certain degree have
some understanding of English, and as they are A2 level of English. This is a sign of
their performing English understanding while being in communication with someone.


These 22 students are at the age of 19-23 and their English proficiency demonstrates
their basic language on a daily basis. Generally, teaching a foreign language to
students, from different countries with different cultures, language systems, psychology
is a very difficult process to some extent. Because now always exact methodology is
applicable. These students are from a mid-sized city in China and of course, they will
have difficulties with their English proficiency. In comparison with the English writing
system the Chinese language is not phonetic, it is one of the difficulties of these
students as their physical composition is different from English. But if we choose the
right methodology of teaching they can easily level up and become B2. I think that the
videos chosen for these students should contain phonetic and linguistic points that are
touched which I would say is an appropriate standard. Also, topics should be students
level appropriate interesting topics such as the Latest inventions, Technological
development, colors, and suchlike. Besides, the teacher can read the passage
himself/herself, can play a recording for students, and also would be better to provide
students with sheets where, for example, a gap-filling or multiple-choice questions or
Yes, No questions types of exercises are given. Gap fillings can be from their favorite
songs because these kinds of activities help release stress at students caused by
different factors or Yes, No questions can be about love, entertainment, or suchlike.
With these kinds of activities, they will be highly involved in the task and will be
