, The Four Stages of Tourism
• 1. Prehistory tourism
• It relates to the medieval times (early 17th
century) when the first sign of industrial growth
started to impact and modify the way of life of
people
• 2. Development of Infrastructure
• Introduction of the rail industry, planes, ship and
other forms of transportation, the hospitality
industry viz restaurant, lodging, inns etc
increased the number of travellers.

• 3. The Interwar Period
• Between 1918 and 1939, people adopted new attitude
for holidays.
• Recreation experts urged on holidays with pay and thus,
an extension of the previously stated forms of tourism
inched to camping, caravanning, youth activities among
others.
• 4 Tourism Take off
• The rapid rise in the movement of travellers round the
globe established the industry which encompasses many
other industry for the co-creation of the final tourism
experience
