When it comes to predicting future exercise behavior, SRT offers a simple methodology for doing so.
Real-world fitness environments regularly use SRT concepts as a means of changing people's
workout habits. According to certain studies, implementing SRT principles can influence a person's
later exercise habits. Negative reinforcement has a short-term effect on exercise, though. However,
when rewards are removed, people's activity levels drop back to where they were before. This is
true for both children and adults. One of the main drawbacks of SRT is that it doesn't take cognition
into consideration (mental functions)...................................................................................................6
SRT relies heavily on the ability to categorize the results of exercise as either positively or negatively.
In actuality, the relationship between exercise habit and outcomes is not as simple as it first appears
to be. Consequently, novice exercisers would give up after a few grueling sessions, but those who
felt wonderful afterward would never give up. In spite of the initial difficulty, many new exercisers
persevere, and in spite of the benefits they experience, many seasoned exercisers stop. A person's
future exercise habits are influenced by other thought patterns. As a result, SRT's predictive and
explanatory power in relation to exercise is constrained......................................................................6
Social cognitive theories.......................................................................................................................6
A person's motivation, such as the intensity of commitment and willingness to which an individual
pursues a task, is viewed by social cognitive theories as determining behavior. It is reasonable to
suppose that a person who is highly determined will put forth extraordinary effort in order to
achieve a behavior. Despite repeated failures and little progress, highly motivated individuals persist
in their endeavors..................................................................................................................................6
Self-efficacy theory................................................................................................................................7
It's commonly accepted that self-efficacy is a situational variant of self-confidence............................7
Theory of planned behavior (TPB).........................................................................................................7
TPB developed to better understand how people's mindsets affect their actions. A particular set of
skills is required for activities like exercise, which could not be adequately explained or predicted
using the reasoned action theory. People’s beliefs about how much control they have over these
behaviours influenced their actions. People with a wide range of ages, ethnicities, and health issues
might benefit from theories of planned behavior to help them understand and plan their physical
exercise habits. Because it only accounts for the smallest total variation observed in exercise
behaviour, TPB cannot explain why people wish to exercise yet do not...............................................7
Motivation is the most important factor in determining whether or not an individual will perform a
specific action, according to the Self-SELF-DETERMINATION THEORY (SDT). In order to encourage
exercise involvement, she must be satisfied with her autonomy and relatedness needs. This
observation holds true across a wide range of samples, including young and old, healthy and ill.
When people's need for competence is met, they are more likely to exercise than when their
competency needs are unmet, according to research on exercise and fundamental needs. A lot more

research is needed to figure out if meeting the demands of autonomy and relatedness are equally
significant in encouraging exercise participation...................................................................................7
There is no doubt that SDT can be used to analyze and anticipate people's exercise habits and build
exercise programs and interventions, based on the current evidence. the major drawback is the level
of complication There are several hypotheses in SDT and it is impossible to test or create an
intervention program that uses all of them in one study. Researchers and interventionists, as a
result, tend to choose simplified models and theories to guide their investigations and treatments...8
