Introduction
A gender role, also known as a sex role, is a social role encompassing a range of
behaviors and attitudes that are generally considered acceptable, appropriate or desirable
for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality (Levesque, 2011). This
paper aims to discuss how they are developed, adopted, what influences the shape of its
perception, identification of changes from early childhood to adolescence and observable
changes that indicate changes in gender identity.
