ENG – 105 Topic 1 DQ 1 Take a moment to reflect on past writing experiences from your academic, personal, or professional life. Answer the following questions as your initial post. Plan to have 150-200 words. 1. What was writing like for you as a child or young adult? Do you recall any vivid writing experiences? 2. How do you currently use writing in academic, personal, and professional experiences? 3. How might writing be used in future academic, personal, and professional experiences? Respond to your peers’ reflections about their own writing experiences, finding similarities and differences and considering the role of writing in your life now and in the future. Writing as a child or young adult was so very long ago. What I do remember is a creative writing assignment from high school English class where we had to describe a paper clip or boiling water. I remember writing about boiling water and describing the sounds made by the water as it jumped out of the pot and splashed onto the burner, and the shapes of the bubbles made by the boiling, some large, some small, and how the swirled around and over each other like a dance. Today my writing centers on writing proposals for quality improvement initiatives in the operating room where I am employed. I have just completed the required classwork, which was very writing intensive, for my bachelor’s in nursing. Although I was able to bypass English and Math over 30 years ago, that credit would not transfer to GCU so here I am taking English 105. I am certain that my future writing will be related to healthcare, through proposals or possibly academic or scholarly journals. In the mid – 1990’s, I published a chapter in an academic medical textbook with a renowned Orthopedic surgeon.
