ENG 105Topic 7 DQ 1
ENG 105Topic 7 DQ 1 According to strategies discussed in Chapter 4 of the textbook, post a message in which you explain the techniques you will use for your introductory paragraph and why they might be effective for you. Then write or revise your introductory paragraph using the techniques you have chosen. Post your introduction along with your explanation. During the week, respond to others’ introductions and explain what you think they did well. Also, offer some advice for revision. You may also offer counterarguments by explaining how someone might disagree with their view. For my introductory paragraph I am using facts and providing background information to garner interest and establish the argument. Original Introduction Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common childhood neurological disorder characterized by the inability to maintain attention and hyperactive or impulsive behaviors (NIMH, n.d.). While there is currently not a cure for ADHD many treatments exist to treat the symptoms including medications. Medications to treat ADHD can be stimulants that increase the production of dopamine and norepinephrine to enhance thinking and attention or non-stimulants such as anti-depressants, which take longer to work but can still improve focus and impulsive behaviors (NIMH, n.d.). Stimulants are often the first line of treatment of ADHD and are at times diverted and misused by those not diagnosed with ADHD (Piper et al., 2018).The misuse of ADHD stimulant medications is detrimental to college students. Revised Introduction With an increasing number of teenagers with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) attending college, the availability, use, and misuse of prescription medications used to treat ADHD has skyrocketed beyond the number of teenagers without ADHD (Weyandt et al., 2016).
