The aim in writing this journal is to pay attention on assessing client with mental health
problems who has addictive disorder by assessing their client’s health, social, and getting the
past or present psychiatric information which will help the provider in finding the right therapy
for the client and making sure there are improvement after re-evaluating the interventions. After
the client’s information is collected, use of psychotherapy for addictive disorder, it will help to
know if motivational interviewing will be effective and appropriate for the client with good
outcome.
According to American Psychiatric Association (2013), it has showed that psychoanalytically
that the providers that work in a rehabilitation centers that deals with addictive agreed that using
psychoanalysis in practice to manage dependence management would help in improving the
client’s outcomes.
Demographics
KM is a 24-year-old Caucasian female who works as a cashier in one of the local stores
part-time, but she lives with her mother. She is the only child that the mother has. They live a
low-income neighborhood with high rate crime including any kind of substance abuse. She does
not drive and goes to work with the public bus. Her mother brought up and she was never
married due to drug abuse and been homeless. KM does not have any child and she assist her
mother.
Presenting Illness
KM stated that she uses heroin at least once or twice a day depending on her mood but will
prefer to find another in dealing with her substance abuse disorder. She feels like she needs the
substance to calm herself and her anxiety.
