A1: Creating a professional mission statement
To be a knowledgeable, highly qualified and sough-after Registered Nurse with a passion for
elevating the patient experience and promoting optimal wellness. I will continue to be a highly
engaged Case Manager for Athena Home Healthcare and Hospice; advocating for my patient and
supporting them reaching their goals while navigating through the end-of-life journey.
I endeavor to pursue higher ground by matriculating through the Nursing Leadership and
Management Program (MSN) at Western Governors University. I seek to enhance my nursing
practice and be a valued member of leadership/management among other highly functioning,
interdisciplinary and interprofessional colleagues.
A1a: How the mission will guide my nursing career
My professional Mission Statement will hold me accountable to the goals I set for myself. It
obligates me to stay on course and keep focused until my mission is complete. It will act as a
personal gauge; allowing me to evaluate how far I have come and celebrate. In times of
discouragement, I can see how much closer I am to nearing the end of the program and it will
propel me to keep going.
My professional Mission Statement will help me further develop the attributes which made me a
good nurse from the beginning. Attributes like self-disciplined, proactive and determined are a few
of the attributes that would be enhanced.
A2a: How artifacts represent me as a learner and a healthcare professional
Artifacts represent my ability to conduct research, understand the content and execute the
objective of the assignment. This ability translates into how I conduct myself as a nurse
professional because there are times where I have to be an investigator. I have to have
knowledge of my patient, medications, procedures etc. Finally, I must perform the task(s) set
before me. I believe, the aforementioned abilities is what a good nurse needs minimally as a
foundation.
A2b: How artifacts represent my professional strengths
Artifacts represents my professional strength to communicate and convey information. My keen
sense of communication has been sharpened and a more polished nurse professional has
emerged as a result of the artifacts in this program.
A2c: Challenges I encountered during the program
The challenges I faced while matriculating through this BSN program included:
• Overcoming the initial fear of starting a new class.
• Difficulty submitting my Health Assessment video via Panopto.
• Transitioning into a new job as a Dialysis Nurse

, • Resigning from the Dialysis Nurse position after 5 months because I was experiencing
Nurse Bullying, Workplace Bullying, Racism and Colorism.
• 10 family members directly impacted by Covid19.
A2ci: How I overcame the challenges
I overcame the previously stated challenges by:
• Reaching out to my Course Instructors, Mentor and Facebook Support to address any
questions or concerns when starting a new class.
• I.T. walked me through converting my recording from YouTube to Panopto. I was able to
have my submission in the queue on the last day of the semester.
• I had great instructors at DaVita Dialysis who were a great support to me during the three
months of training.
• I filed a grievance against the nurses and Facility Administrator who bullied me. I was also
offered a Supervisor Position at a Home Healthcare Agency, which made it easy for me to
leave DaVita Dialysis.
• My family designated me as the contact person and liaison between them and the hospital to
communicate the progress of 8/10 family members who were hospitalized. I also facilitated the
care of the 2 members who were quarantined at home. I was at the helm of everyone's care and
I am happy to report that all 10 family members are alive and well.
A2d: How my coursework helped me to meet the nine nursing program outcomes
Effective communication- Communication is one of my strong suits. However, this program
has refined my ability to communicate in the sense that I can now articulate as a Bachelor's
prepared nurse. C468 enlightened me on how Information Management and the Application of
Technology is needful and should be embraced by all nurses, in all healthcare settings. This is
important because we need uniformity in how we communicate and technology would certainly
be the vessel to carry that out. I have learned how to better communicate with upper
management and address falls and how to prevent them in C493 task 1. Lastly, I have learned
how to effectively devise and communicate via an e-portfolio.
Clinical reasoning- My ability to reason clinically have been enhanced the most through the
Evidence Based Practice class. I have learned how to take proven research and apply it to my
nursing practice. I can now confidently navigate finding the most up-to-date research and
translate that to quality patient care.
Professional accountability- Accountability from an ethical standpoint was really driven while
taking C304 Professional Roles and Values. It is vitally important to hold myself and fellow
nurse co-workers accountable to the standards outlined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Synthesis of knowledge- All classes within this BSN program helped synchronize and
synthesize the knowledge acquired and incorporate it into nursing practice and quality patient
care.
