Know types of fracture (commuted, transverse, oblique and impacted)
, lOMoARcPSD|3013804
2 main types:
• Closed (simple)– does not protrude
• Open (compound)– bone protrudes from the skin
- Grade:
1. Minimal skin damage
2. Bone going into skin and muscle
3. Bone going into skin, muscles, nerves & blood vessels
Common Types of Fx (fracture)
1. Commuted aka crush
2. Oblique – goes straight through bone in an oblique angle
3. Spiral – fracture occurs from twisting motion common in soccer players,
skateboard
4. Impact – An impacted fracture occurs when the broken ends of the bone are
jammed together by the force of the injury
5. Green stick – fracture occurs on one side but does not extend completely through
the bone (most often seen in children)
