Team Management Activity and Reflection
Congratulations to me; I have just been promoted to a management position with
Amazon.com. This position will require relocation to a new plant two hours from my current
location where I will oversee 10 supervisors and 90 packers as well as the entire warehouse
operation. In this paper I will explain how I will apply the five management functions which are;
planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controls. Using the five management functions will
ensure that I not only will achieve my goals, but the goals of Amazon.com as well.
The planning phase is where decisions are made about future activities and what main
goals the company wants to pursue (Baack, Reilly, & Minnick, 2014). Since I have completed
Amazon’s management training program and completed my BABA degree, I know it is
important to spend quality time here to make sure the vision of what needs to be accomplished
remains clear. According to Farfan’s 2018 article, Amazon’s Mission Statement:
It can be concluded that the success of Amazon.com as the top Internet retailing
company in the world is due at least in part to their unwavering commitment to this
mission and the daily execution of it. The mission and vision of Amazon.com is: ““Our
vision is to be earth's most customer-centric company; to build a place where people can
come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online." (para. 2).
Because our company continuously anticipates change, not only in customer trends, but
technology as well, I want to implement programs that will build a positive team culture while
keeping my team focused on our operational goals.
Operational goals and team member performance work together therefore should be
measured alongside each other. Operational goals are performance targets measured daily and
often are used for performance appraisals (Baack, Reilly, & Minnick, 2014). Amazon.com
