U.S Health Care System Essay
Introduction
American and Canadian health care are both completely dynamic perspectives on how a
government runs their systems. In this paper the writer will be discussing the differences between
these systems in terms of what they cover, the percentage of gross domestic product, average life
expectancy statistics in both countries, service levels, equity, access and the input resources for
both regions.
Health Care Coverage and Quality
The United States health care system is not the highest in terms of accessibility despite
being a high-income country. They do although, provide gateways for their citizens to receive
effective and advanced services. According to the Commonwealth Fund Survey, the U.S health
care system is amongst one of the lowest ranking in quality due to their high spending capita,
issues with maintaining patient information, patient paperwork issues and the improper use of
information technology (The Health Systems and Policy Monitor). Services that American health
care provides is employer-based insurance, private insurance, and public health coverage like
Medicare and Medicaid (Rhee, et al., 2018). With certain qualifications having to be met,
Medicaid allows its consumers to receive prescribed medicine, x-ray services, physician services,
physical therapy, occupational therapy, at home treatments and inpatient or outpatient hospital
services (Rhee, et al., 2018). Medicare, a similar health care plan, covers physical therapy,
occupational therapy, health aide services, physician visits, preventative services, laboratory
tests, prosthetics, medical equipment and wellness visits (Rhee, et al., 2018). These services
though, are not available to every individual living in America. Certain qualifications and
standards must be met in order to receive access to these services.
