Holistic

According to the Census Bureau (2021) total population at zip code 79902, which surrounds

the hospital setting, constitutes of 21,236 people being 10,306 males and 10,930 females. The

predominant race and ethnicity are White and Hispanic or Latino with 16,885, the minority

groups consisted of African Americans, Asians, and Hawaiian and other Pacific islanders. The

average age of White is 38.5 from both sexes (Male 35.8 & Female 40.9), Hispanic or Latino

average age is 33.9 years-old for both sexes (Male 30.7 & 37 Female), of African American 24-

years-old average (Male 26.2 & 22 Female), Asian 28.1-years-old from both sexes (28.2 Male &

28.1 Female). The average household is very similar for the majority’s groups being White 2.38

(Under 18 is 0.52 & 18 years and over 1.87), and Hispanic or Latino household size 2.54 (0.61

under 18 & 1.93 over 18 years and over). For minorities group African American average

household size is 1.91 (0.35 under 18 years & 1.57 18 years and over), and Asian 2.22 (0.22

under 18 years and 1.99 over 18).

According to the United Sates Zip Codes the median household income in the zip code

79902 is $30,315 which is lesser than other parts of El Paso. The data breaks down into 33%

working full time, 28% part time, and 39% with no earnings. Main sources of income come from

wages and partnership. It’s important to mention that this zip code has a well above average

number of people who do not use a vehicle to commute, using public transportation, bicycles,

and walking as ways for transportation.

undiagnosed. Comparing this percentage against other Texas zip codes, 79902 is within the

worst 25% of diabetes in Texas. This is particularly alarming since according to the CDC “This

disease can have harmful effects on most of the organ systems in the human body, which may

lead or cause end-stage renal disease, non-traumatic lower-extremity amputation, and a leading

cause of blindness among working age adults.” (2020). Also, diabetes people are at increased

risk for MI and other cardiovascular diseases, neuropathy, and stroke.
