NRS 493 Topic 2 DQ 2 What is the main issue for your organization in addressing a solution to evidence-based nursing practice? Discuss what might be the first step in addressing and resolving this issue. In my organization the biggest barrier to addressing evidence-based practice would be time. Time, I feel is the biggest barrier because the limited amount we spend with patients is focused on stabilizing or transferring to higher level of care, staffing, and focus of this department. There is limited time spent assessing their levels of education and educating to me personally the focus is literally on maintaining life/safety. I don't feel I always get the time or the ability in this area to determine the patient's best way to learn or education level or whether or not they really understood what I meant in the discharge. Another barrier for me is language, many speak Spanish and I am not fluent. Even though we have tablets and ways to translate I still feel it creates barriers in educating. When interviewing my preceptor, she stated "time and the approach of the care provider are the differences in the Emergency room specifically. What I mean is whether the provider/nurse chooses to go through and explain all the parts of discharge along with the pieces the patient doesn't understand or if they are just handing them the discharge paperwork and saying here read this" (Norris, F., personal communication, July 24, 2019).” Norris, F.
